New generation of governors seeking the limelight

WASHINGTON (AP) — For a number of governors with national ambitions, this is pad-your-record time.

Republicans Bobby Jindal of Louisiana is promoting a sweeping plan to get rid of his state's income tax. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is pushing changes to his state's Medicaid program.

Democrats like Martin O'Malley of Maryland and Andrew Cuomo of New York have been at the forefront of issues like gay marriage, gun control and ways to boost the economy.

The governors are considered pivotal to their parties' success in future elections, and several could have White House ambitions. Governors are gathering this weekend at the three-day National Governors Association meeting in Washington.
